I have seen photos of recumbent trikes that use a simple frame with a web for the actual seat. Rumour is they are quite comfortable, and the design allows for a lot of airflow. I would also assume that they are quite light. It might be worth thinking about using a similar idea to that. - Ben Powell

Registration requirements may preclude the use of a custom manufactured seat, particularly if it is to have integrated seat belt attachment points and the like.
